What is Clean Beauty?
Posted by CAMILA OLIVERA
If you use any type of beauty or skincare products, you’ve probably seen the term “clean beauty” being used. Clean beauty is one of the biggest trends right now and we are hoping that it stays that way! Clean Beauty is all about knowing what is in the products that you are using and avoiding ingredients that have the potential or are suspected of causing harm in any way. Some ingredients that are on the “stay away from” list include the following: parabens, phthalate, drying alcohols, artificial fragrances, and dyes.
Why you should care about your product ingredients
What we put on our skin should matter to us. Your skin is your body’s largest organ and taking care of it should be a number one priority. A lot of us have become more aware of what we put into our bodies as far as food is concerned. We should be the same way about our skin care and beauty products. Certain ingredients previously found in cosmetics and skin care products have led to suspicion that they could play a part in developing certain conditions. Fortunately, many companies have taken this clean beauty step towards developing products without harmful chemicals.
How do you know if a product is clean?
The number one way to know if a product is clean is to look at the ingredients. I know reading ingredients can be overwhelming because ingredients are often listed using their scientific name. However, typically next to the scientific name, in parenthesis, will be the common name. If you really want to know what is in products you use, take time to learn the ingredients that you are trying to avoid. Once you do that, you will easily be able to spot them next you are choosing a product!
Certain ingredients previously found in cosmetics and skin care products have brought up suspicions that they could play a part in developing certain illnesses. For example, research has found that parabens can disrupt hormone function which has been linked to various illnesses. https://www.ewg.org/californiacosmetics/parabens
There is no “finite” definition for clean beauty but there are certain general categories that it falls into. In conclusion, the only person that can determine if a product is clean and right for you is you!

These products even feel better. I’m just learning about Clean Beauty. I was shocked to learn what my skin care products had in them. It’s like drinking chemical infused water. You don’t want that for yourself and certainly not for your loved ones. I highly recommend these products.
